Formation of Task Group on Project Exports

• The government of India set up a “Task Group on Project Exports” led by Dr. Abid Hussain.

Laying the Foundation

• A Task Group proposed an institution to train techno-managers for construction.

• H. J. Shah & Bahubali Gulabchand supported the idea.

• BAI passed a resolution and formed a Steering Committee for construction management education.

• NICMAR held National Training Workshops at TISS, Bombay, and MDI, Gurgaon, to develop specialized programs.

Official Establishment of NICMAR

• NICMAR was formally founded on 16th September 1983, with 20 founding companies contributing ₹50,000 each.

Foundation and Early Expansion

• NICMAR began operations at Walchand Terraces, Mumbai, with a Postgraduate Diploma in Construction Management.

• NICMAR conducted management development workshops in major cities, expanding its outreach.

First National Conference on Construction

• NICMAR hosted a conference at Vigyan Bhavan, influencing policies in the 7th Five-Year Plan.

International Recognition and Academic Advancement

• The UNDP approved NICMAR’s proposal, with the ILO designated as the project executing authority.

• NICMAR organized an international workshop to create a Master’s-level Construction Management program.

Strengthening Industry Collaboration

• UNDP support enabled faculty training, curriculum development, and strategic partnerships with industry leaders.

Launch of Master’s Diploma Program

• NICMAR introduced its Master’s Diploma in Construction Management, advancing industry-relevant education.

Becoming a Leading Institute

• Nationwide Presence with Flagship Programs- NICMAR expanded to Mumbai, Pune, NCR, Goa, and Hyderabad, offering specialized courses.

• 37,000+ Graduates in 39 Years- NICMAR produced over 37,000 graduates, many of whom hold key managerial positions in the infrastructure industry.

• Industry Collaboration and Executive Training- Companies partnered with NICMAR, sending employees and fresh recruits for Executive Development Programs (EDP).

• Pune Campus Acquisition- NICMAR acquired land in Pune and developed modern infrastructure for advanced learning.

New Leadership Appointment

• Dr. Anil Kashyap took charge as Director General, leading NICMAR into a new era of growth.

• Expansion of Pune Campus: NICMAR acquired 50 acres of land in Pune to expand academic and research facilities.

University Status for Pune Campus

• NICMAR was officially granted university status, enhancing its academic reputation.

• Focus on Built Environment Education - NICMAR declared the Built Environment as its primary academic focus.

Expansion into New Disciplines

• Introduced Engineering, Architecture, and Planning schools, along with a Doctoral program.

• Long-Term Strategic Planning: Developed strategic and business plans to drive long-term institutional growth.

NCR Campus Acquisition & Office Relocation

• NICMAR acquired its NCR campus and moved its Corporate Office & Executive Training Center to Equinox Kurla.

• AICTE Approval for Hyderabad & NCR Campuses - Received AICTE approval for PGDM Business Schools at Hyderabad and NCR campuses.

• NICMAR Online - Initiated NICMAR Online, marking its entry into digital education and remote learning.

Launch of NICMAR Online

• NICMAR Online launched its first course, BIM, designed for AECO professionals with 0 to 5 years of experience, enhancing skills.
